Avatar

I went to see Avatar few days ago, and it really impressed me a lot. I watched 3D version, and it makes me felt these sceneries and creatures are so real, thank to the technology nowaday. In addition to the special effects in Avatar, the whole story does mean something to us,even I think it is felt like one movie, The Last Samurai. Human broke the eath and tried to find another planets for living, but still are breaking the new planet.

Avatar in this movie represents a kind of biological machines that is combined human's DNA and Navi's together, and human can control this machine through mind transforming. However, what does avatar exactly mean in the dictionary? It defines avatar that is a picture of a person or an animal representing a person on a computer screen, especially in a computer game or chat room. So, I think I can explain that avatar is a form of human beings in Pandora, and that could means Navis are also human beings. Both of them are creature in a planet, and both of them try to use all resources in the planet for living, but the most different thing I think between them is that Human beings in the movie take all resources only for themselves, however, Navi use resources for the whole planet.

I think this movie, Avatar, is trying to tell us about environmental issue, and tell us what we are doing may cause the extinction of human beings. If we don't protect our environment, maybe we will find other planets someday for living. Besides, there is a really interesting dilemma between environment protection and economy in this movie. Because human want to increase economical benefit, they consume more resources, and that causes damage to the environment. Sometimes, we can't have our cake and eat it. We have to make a choice.

This is a great movie, I think. At least, it is worth for me to think.

My Experience in Google Wave

First, I would thank my friend from twitter who share his invitation with me. Otherwise, I have no opportunity to experience google wave.

When I used google wave the first time, it not that easy to use as the demo video. It took me some times to get used to it. However, it is pretty good overall. People said that google wave is like IM software, but I think it is more like a e-mail with a chat room. I think this idea supposed to impress to everyone.

So far, we can use "with:public" command to search public waves, but sometimes the command would be "with:public@a.gwave.com". If you want to search public waves in specific languages such as chinese, you can add "lang:zh" at the end of the command. Unfortunately, it is not always work completely right. You may search some others languages by this method.

The most attractive things of google wave is that there are a lot of robots and extension on google wave like translation robot, emotional icon robot, and google map extension. All of this stuff would add more interesting in google wave.

However, there are still things that I don't like it. For example, the speed of google wave is so slow, and it takes too much resources to run it. I know that it is in preview stage, but I think it would be much better when speed of google wave become faster and faster. And the way of classification is not good, I think. The most way of classification in google is label which is in gmail, document, even favorite list. But I don't know why google wave's classification is folder which makes me not adapted to it.

Besides, I hope there will be a option to open a new wave in new window or new tab. It would be more convenience to talk to many people in different waves, even though there is a wave list on the top of web page. To be honest, it is difficult to use at all.

I think google wave will be easier and more convenience to use, but I hope it can improve very soon.

Working with Bacteria

I have been in microorganism lab for 2 weeks, working with bacteria. That really makes me exhausted. As the lab's name, all we do are about microorganism such as bacteria, fungus, and virus. However, the works I did these days are only about bacteria, and it is dangerous. Actually, not all bacteria can cause disease, and only few of them can, but this lab is full of disease-causing bacteria.

In hospital, common clinical samples are blood, urine, sputum, and body fluid. I think they are really disgusting because some of them were not well packed that makes samples leak out of containers. I asked to MT, " Why the samples are not well packed? Why don't we just reject them?" The answer really disappoint me. "We had rejected samples before, but the nurses were angry about that and complained to our chief who is a doctor, not MT. Sometimes they just yell back angrily", said a predecessor. Since then, MT will run tests if the orders and the samples are correct, regardless the quality and quantitative about samples. Doctors only care about the result.

The first thing we do when we get samples is the check sample, patient, and order if they are correct. Then, we classify samples by different kinds of tests such as aerobic and anaerobic tests and we inoculate samples on medium plates. Then, we can wait for the growth of bacteria. After bacteria growth on the plates, we select the colony which we want to know, and put it in a identified machine and wait for results. That is the main steps of procedure, but sometimes machines could be wrong so we would run other chemical tests or just confirm under microscopes. That is really difficult, and this is why MTs is professional. To most people, every bacteria looks the same no matter what kind of microscope do they use, and I am one of them. I spent times learning to tell the difference between bacteria, and now I know a little.

In this lab, MTs let us, interns, practice every procedures by our own, and learn thing during practicing. They seems trusted us very much, and sometimes they even didn't check whether we did correctly or not. Basically, we did everything except identify bacteria and report results. Therefore, we had to proceed samples quickly because there were many samples, maybe hundred of them a day. If we didn't proceed quickly, we would be off late. After my first day, I was exhausted, and late to be off work. Since then, I made myself become faster and faster in order to be off on time.

These days, I learned many things and experience the works of a MT. I have to say it is great but I am not sure if I will be a MT after graduating. Because there is no available for MT, and the payment become lower and lower. That is the worst story that I have ever heard.

Every Times I Meet a Patient

Although, MTs worked in the hospital, they seldom have chances to meet their patient. In fact, they won't see any patient unless there are some law issues. So, I think it is very boring to do the same things with the same people all day, and I think that the only thing can cheer MTs up is finding some new exam methods to make tests more accurate. However, there are still some good things about work in the lab, that is we don't need to deal with patients.

I was at the EKG room few weeks ago. There, I can contact to patients which makes me feel interested. I told patients what EKG is, and told them how to do this test. In the conversation, I feel that most of patients feel scared when they do any medical tests which they have never done before. Being a medical staff, our first job is to make patients feel at ease. It will be easy if I talk to "normal" person. Because most of people know what I said and do what I told them do do. However, few of patients are too old or too sick to understand what I said. It is a big problem to me. I always don't know what to do. Sometimes, I tried my best to communicate with them, but sometimes, I just did what I have to do.

I found that communicating with patients is very difficult. As a MT, I cannot tell patients the result of the test even I know. It can avoid argument with doctor when we have different diagnosis. So, if a patient ask about the result, we can only tell them we don't know. That really depress me.

First Day Be an Intern

Like every body's first time, people would feel nervous, anxious because they don't know everything well. They are afraid to do something wrong. Taiwanese people would be quiet at this moment because they believe silence is gold. However, there are still some people who may ask questions more positively, or express their feeling, but in most of time, this kind of people are not be liked by everyone. Actually, it is a good thing to be talkative because that is the way to learn things.

I am not a talkative guy. When I was in the first day to be an intern of medical laboratory scientist , we called MT for short because of the old name medical technologist, I could nearly speak. I was wondering whether my speech is appropriate or not. That made me quiet, and stood there like a wood. Unfortunately, all my partners are the same with me. When MTs were working, they seemed to be too busy to be interrupted. Of course, it was what I assumed because when I was young, my parents always told me that if the adults are busy, don't interrupt them, and if I have any question, I should ask later. Honestly, it is a very bad idea. That is why, there is always a problem that if I don't ask my question immediately, I would forget my question when people are free, or it would be very odd to ask a question about maybe 20 minutes ago after I found people are free. Therefore, I always have a lot of questions in my mind.

My first stop was at Genetic Diagnosis. All the examine methods are new. All the MTs are very busy, so they didn't have time to teach me. Then, I started to read some SOP(standard operate procedure) in the lab. It would be normal for me if I have questions about the SOP, but I kept my questions in my mind because I saw everybody was busy. Basically, what I did in my first day is just standing all day. I felt very tired after I offed the lab, and the most important thing is that I felt very very boring.

My Summer Vacation is Over

This year is different. I usually have a summer vacation from beginning of July to the end of August, but this summer vacation is only to July 31. "What is the special this year?", you may ask, and I will tell you,"yes." This semester is really big for me because I will become an intern of medical laboratory scientist which we called it medical technologist in the past. We do lab stuff in the hospital, and help doctor diagnosis.

I will have an intern life for half year, and I think that is short, comparing to others. Even the time is short, I am still nervous about the intern things because many seniors told us that it would make us exhausted when we become an intern. Besides, they told us the lab stuff is not interesting at all. All we do is watching machines running. Anyway, being an intern is new for me after all, so I won't know it before I am one.

However, I can't believe my summer vacation is over so fast. I planned some thing for this vacation, such as studying, finding a part time job, having a trip, but I have only done one which is having a trip. Technically, I have done half of studying. Never mind, I have known that I won't finish my plan already. I just feel terrible about my short vacation.

Shot To The Heart

It was a joke that I saw on the internet:

Aging Mildred was a 93 year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband Earl. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death.

Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out Earl's old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart since it was so badly broken in the first place.

Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and burden to someone, she called her doctor to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be.

"On a woman," the doctor said, "your heart would be just below your left breast." Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee.

I know that the woman didn't know where the heart is, but I don't know the ha ha point of this joke. Does anyone know it?

The Oldest Veteran Passed Away

I accidentally read a news about an veteran, Henry Allingham, who participated in WW1 and has died aged 113. It is no doubt that he has lived for a long long time. He had been in so many historical event which includes WW1. Mr Allingham had so much experience but he seldom mentioned them to others until few years ago, he started making public appearance to share his own memories. All of them are treasure not only for people but also for the countries.

The news said that the primary minister of UK also show tributes to this great man, and called him a "tremendous character". I don't know Mr Allingham actually, but I can feel how amazing he is through this news. At the end of the news, it tell us that there are only two British survivors of WW1, and they are Harry Patch, 111, and Claude Choules, 108, now living in Australia.

After I finished this news, I start to think about how would I be if I were aged 113. Am I great as Henry Allingham? The answer is obviously unsure because no one know the future. But, is there any possibility that I can live until aged 113? I think it is possible. Thanks to the improvement of medicine, people live much more longer. When I read histories, it was very long if some one has lived for 50 years, but now, so many people died at age of eighties or nighties. Reasonable to assume, people around my aged can live more than a hundred years.

Well, it is kind of good news to people if we can live longer, but I have a different idea about this. People live longer which means they would work longer. Then it will have a problem that old people occupy the jobs so that young people cannot find one. In social welfare, it will be a burden if old people are a lot. I did say living longer is bad, but to say that it is worth for us to think about it.

Auteria

Recently, I found an online game named Auteria. Like other online games, you play a character in this virtual space, but there are some thing different with other online games which is that there are many skills instead of occupations. You can practice all the skill you like if your level is high enough. The skills are attack, deffense, cook, harvest, magic, enchant, blacksmith, tailor, farmor, and combat.

However, there is no skill point for you to enhance you sill, instead, every skills have its own level, and you should practice them one by one. For example, if you want to increase you attack ability, you just go to attack some creatures, and if you want to increase your defense ability, you just go to be attacked by creatures. That is simple, right? This property makes this game more easy to play, and you don't need to worried about what skill is important or useful.

There are also many quests in Ateria, just like other online games. You talk to NPCs for getting a quest and do what they told you. In the beginning, quests would tell you how to play this game, and tell you some tips about this game. You should be patient to read the descriptions.

My name in Auteria is Kue. If anyone want to play this game, I would love to help you sometimes, but I just play this game for a day, so I still don't know this game very well. This is the website of Auteria: http://www.auteria.com, and this game can be installed in windows, mac, and linux. Of course, it is free.

Move to New Room.

Since I live in the dormitory, so I have to move my stuff to another room, even I still have to live in the dormitory, according to the rules. Actually, there are small amount of people, maybe about 300 people who has to live in the dormitory in this summer vacation, but the Dormitory Committee allowed only 3 hours for us to move our stuff, and all the elevators of this dormitory are only three. More over, there is only one elevator can be from 12 floors where is my original room to 6 floor where is my new room, so moving my stuff cost me about 4 hours because so many people also have to take the same elevator, too.

Obviously, I got very tired after I finishing the moving thing. The worst new is that, I will have to move all my stuff again when the new semester is start. At that moment, I will be an intern as medical technologist, and I will be very busy. As long as I think about the situation of moving my stuff when I am an intern, I feel very tired and lazy. I hope that there will be less people to move in to the new room in the end of summer vacation.

I am wondering why Dormitory Committee allow such short time for us to move our stuff. Why don't they allow more time, maybe 24 hours. That will be great.

Changing Title of This Blog.

I changed the title of this blog from Relief Life to English@Life and Story because I want this blog to be a place for every one who want to practice English. I think that the more people practicing English together, the more things we can learn.

Also, I found a function of Blogger which is multiple authors. The max number of authors is 100 people. Therefore, if you want to share your experiences or practicing English together, please tell me, and I will add you as an author of English@Relief Life.

Exams are coming!!!

Recently, I have a lot of big exams. There are so many books to study, and I felt bored about them, so I decide to take a little rest, writing some thing on my blog. Actually, I am planning how to have fun after the exams. I will go to a fancy restaurant with all my roommates, and we will also celebrate one of my roommates who graduated from college this years, and will go to a graduate school in this August.

Also, I think I will want to have a job in this summer but I have not decided which kind of job will I want to take. In Kaohsiung, there are many bosses who pay their employee below the lowest salary which declared by laws. This is so unreasonable. I hope I can find a job which is payed above the lowest salary, or just the same with the lowest salary.

Then, good luck for my big exams!!!

I am Back to Blogger

In fact, I have this blog for a very long time because I am a google fan. That means I will try every services provided by google. The main reason to build up this blog is because that I want to have a place to practice my English. But at first, I don't thing that Blogger is a nice one because it doesn't have to many functions for me to use. Accidentally, I found a website, built by Blogger is very different. The owner of that blog make his (or maybe her) blog like a web site. Therefore, I google some extra javascript for Blogger, and the data are a lot.

By this reason, I decided to restart this blog, and make it different. Now, I think I have done 50% of them. And also, I will find more interesting javascript for Blogger to make my blog more interesting. By the way, the photo on the top is Taipei 101 which is the highest building in the world. And the picture in this article is taken at love river in Kaohsiung. There is really pretty at night.

Call Me Strawberry

Strawberry is a kind of fruit which is easy to get hurt. As everybody knows, strawberries cannot be pressed and put in an inappropriate environment. If you do so, strawberries would be rotten very soon. In Taiwan, people use strawberry to describe a person who cannot suffer pressure and adapt different environments. It seems like strawberry is a disparage word to describe some one. However, is that true?

In these days, the world change fast, and everybody should work harder than before to catch up the changing speed. Therefore people have to suffer more pressure to make themselves improve, otherwise they will be eliminated by times. These are thoughts of eastern people who afraid to lose to others since the day before world war two. At that moment, westerners were stronger than easterners, the former invented many weapons to conquer other countries of the latter. Easterners suffered not only pressure but also losing freedom from ruled by westerners, so easterners worked hard, trying to catch up even exceed westerners, in order to live in a comfortable life. There was only one country almost did so, it was Japan, but technically, they did not success.

In the eastern Asia, the thought of be better than others to live in a comfortable life has hand down to nowadays. People try to work very hard to exceed other so that they can live in a life of ruling others, not ruled by others. They think this kind of life is the greatest life. So, if you want to be better than others, you have to work harder. What if you want to be the best? Even working hardest cannot be proved to be the best. Some people worked very hard all of their life but cannot be the best. It tell us that being somebody is very difficult because somebody are only some of people can be. Therefore, to be the best is not the comfortable life for people to live.

Westerners found it hundred years ago, they raised up evolution of democracy fight for human rights after Industrial Revolution which is the time when people worked very hard. After the democracy evolution succeeded, people can live in a freedom, casual life. In Taiwan, people live in this kind of life will be called strawberry because they only do what they like, what they want. Most of people think that there is only work hard to catch up the advanced country, but they forget that why the advanced countries called advanced is because people in advanced countries have more human rights, and can do what they want, what they like in their countries, but work hard all days. The time of Industrial Revolution had passed, and the time of human rights has came. If you still only work hard, it will not help your country improve.

In my opinion, we cannot say strawberry is a disparage or praise word. It's just a word which symbols human right. Strawberry is expensive, rare, and not easy to plant, just like our life which is priceless, none is the same, and not easy to take.
